Technology Solutions for the Finance and Insurance Industry

Securities Industry Association (SIA)

Technology Management Exhibition (SIA-TMC2002)

Masfin Consulting recently exhibited at the SIA 2002 Technology Management Conference & Exhibit, organized by the Securities Industry Association at the Hilton Hotel in New York City from June 19-21, 2002.  The exposition was a showcase of more than 250 companies exhibiting their products and services designed especially for the industry’s technology operations.

The conference’s theme, “The New Reality” was centered around the issues of STP and T+1.  This theme was very appropriate for Masfin since the firm’s recent success stories have been helping its clients avoid the pitfalls of implementing STP and helping them leverage their own internal resources by making their systems work.  Masfin and its clients have found that successful STP/T+1 implementation boils down to implementing a conveyer belt/transaction management infrastructure and controls that leverages the existing core systems, instead of the “out of the box” or “Silver Bullet” solution, which doesn’t work since they do not fit into the existing systems.

Attendees visiting Masfin's booth had the opportunity to learn about the benefits of our approach to consulting that leads to getting the projects done.  IT and business managers appreciated our approach of using small teams (as represented by our n2/3 logo), using an iterative approach and rapid prototyping.  Many managers shared stories of project delays and failures resulting from consultants spending three to six months telling them why they needed to hire consultants in the first place.  They understand how Masfin’s approach would avoid these risks and how, after a short period of time, tangible results can be achieved.

Masfin’s film clip, illustrating the failed consulting approach as compared to Masfin’s successful approach, was a hit.  Although the clip was comical in nature, it made the point very clear; the success or failure of a project is dependant on the approach.  The right approach uses small teams, which results in more efficient communication, the right tools and a customized and iterative approach.  The result of this approach is the project gets done!

See us there next year!
